Let's find out more.
When you open and close the refrigerator door, the cold air inside meets the warm air outside.
This temperature difference creates condensation, and if the moisture doesn't dry, mold can grow.
Dust and other debris can also accumulate on the door gasket over time.
Try this.
Is there black residue on the door gasket?
Clean the gasket with a hot, steamy towel.
- 1. Wet a towel with water.
- 2. Microwave the towel to create a steamy towel. (It should be hot enough that you need to wear rubber gloves. You can also soak the towel in hot water.)
- 3. Wipe all four sides of the door gasket.
- 4. Reheat the towel in the microwave and repeat steps 2 and 3 two or three times.
- 5. After cleaning, dry the gasket with a dry towel to prevent condensation.
- 6. Keep the door closed for at least two hours to allow the gasket to seal properly.
Is the refrigerator door not closing properly?
Make sure the refrigerator cover or plastic bags aren't caught in the door.
If the gasket is loose, press it back into place.
If you've just cleaned the refrigerator, make sure the shelves and drawers have been properly reaseembled.
