LG Washer - Cycle Time Does Not Change

    • Troubleshooting

    At a Glance

Cycle time on an LG washers can be extended by different variables such as the selected cycle, load size, load weight, fabric types, fabric thickness, amount of suds water temperature and more.

    1. Do you see an error code on the display?

      Yes No
    2. Please visit our Error Codes - Washing Machine article for a complete list of error codes and possible solutions.

    3. During what washing phase does the timer seem to be prolonged?

      Fill Wash Spin Rinse
    4. Does the washing machine fill with water at all?

      Yes No
    5. After starting the washer, does the drum move?

      Yes No
    6. After starting the washer, does the drum move?

      Yes No
    7. Does the washing machine fill with water at all?

      Yes No
    8. Common reasons for cycle delay during the FILL PHASE are:

Mineral deposits from the water can build up on the inlet filters, which slows the water as it fills the machine.

      wash away mineral deposits

      To check the filters:

      1. Turn off the water supply to the washer.
      2. Remove the inlet hoses from the back of the machine. Have a bucket available to capture water draining from the water hoses.
      3. Check the inlet filters for buildup.

      remove filter out

Verify that there are no kinks in the water hose caused by tangles or from the machine being pressed against the wall.

The required water pressure is between 14.5 PSI and 116 PSI. If the water pressure to the unit is at the lower end of this range, it will take longer for the unit to fill. If this is a recent occurrence, be sure to check the inlet filters for buildup, and check the inlet hoses to make sure they are not kinked. The water valves supplying water to the unit should be completely opened.

If WATER PLUS is selected, the fill time will be longer because this option adds additional water to the cycle.

Make sure the water supply is turned on from the main.

    10. Common reasons for cycle delay during the WASH PHASE are:

The stain cycle option will add time to the wash cycle to enhance wash performance.

The stain care option will add time by heating the water to different temperatures, according to the stain selected for an enhanced stain removal.

The wash/rinse optimizer adds time by extending the wash cycle if there is not enough detergent for the cycle (this option will add time to the rinse cycle if there is too much detergent).

This feature activates if the machine detects excessive suds in the unit. If it is automatically added without selecting any option, the unit will drain and add water to dilute the concentration of detergent. Each activation of this feature adds approximately 12 minutes to the cycle and it is possible for this to be activated multiple times.

Run a tub cleaner through the unit to remove detergent buildup, and reduce the amount of detergent and fabric softener as necessary.

Make sure the drain filter is clean and free of obstruction. Make sure the drain hose is not kinked and is installed properly.

      • Verify that there are no kinks in the water hose caused by tangles or from the machine being pressed against the wall.

        remove kinks from water hose

      • Verify the height of the drain hose loop and make sure it meets requirements stated in the manual.
        Note

        usually, 30" - 40" from the floor.

    12. Common reasons for cycle delay during the SPIN PHASE are:

Make sure the drain filter is clean and free of obstruction. Make sure the drain hose is not kinked and is installed properly.

      • Verify that there are no kinks in the water hose caused by tangles or from the machine being pressed against the wall.

      • Verify the height of the drain hose loop and make sure it meets requirements stated in the manual.
        Note

usually at least 30" - 40" from the floor.

verify the height of the drain hose

If the load is not balanced properly, the unit will attempt to re-balance the items in the drum. During the spin cycle, when an unbalance is detected, the drum will slow down and tumble back and forth a few times to mix up the load. It will then speed back up to see if the load has been rebalanced. If not, it will slow back down, tumble back and forth a few times and then speed back up.

It will continue this until the load is rebalanced or the unit determines that it must be rebalanced by hand, at which point a UE Error Code is displayed.

      Note

Too small of a load will cause the unit tu be unbalanced even after the customer has re-arranged clothing. It may require adding more clothes. The same can happen when washing cloths that are not of the same material. An example would be washing a towel with regular clothing.

    13. Common reason for cycle delay during the RINSE PHASE are:

Mineral deposits from the water can build up on the inlet filters and slow the water as it fills the machine.

      To check the filters:

      1. Turn off the water supply to the washer.
      2. Remove the inlet hoses from the back of the machine. Have a bucket available to empty any water from the water hoses into.
      3. Check the inlet filters for buildup.

      remove filter out

Extra rinse will add time the rinse cycle. The wash/rinse optimizer will add time if there is too much detergent by adding additional rinses.

Make sure the water supply is turned on.

    14. It is normal for the cycle time to last up to 2 hours, depending on the cycle and options selected.

Does this happen with all the loads, regardless of options, load types or load size?

      Yes No

    16. It is normal for larger loads and loads made of heavier, thicker fabric types to extend the cycle time as they require more water, take longer to absorb the water, and take longer to drain and spin.
